ABOUT ME

I’m absolutely crazy about nature and animals.  I studied Animal Behaviour at University and then worked at Jersey Zoo before training as a Veterinary Nurse at Woodgreen and eventually completing an MA in Children’s Book Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art. I combine illustration work with veterinary nursing at Woodgreen and lecturing in Veterinary Radiography at the University of Cambridge.

Illustration and veterinary nursing may not seem like the most obvious combination, but I’m passionate about sharing my knowledge of animals and art is often the best way to help people to engage with them.

CHILDREN'S PICTURE BOOKS

I’m very excited about my wild facts and amazing facts picture book series with Boxer Books. There are five in the series, the first was called How much does a Ladybird weigh? This is a counting book about weight, which uses an array of native wild animals to explain how heavy each animal is relative to the others. The series explores units of measure as well as maths concepts. You can purchase a copy here.

VETERINARY ILLUSTRATION

As an animal behaviourist and veterinary nurse I am very keen to use my knowledge of animal anatomy and behaviour to produce accurate images of animals for both functional and educational purposes. In the past I have been commissioned to do a body condition scoring project at ZSL London Zoo and educational dog safety illustrations for Woodgreen. I have recently completed a small animal radiographic positioning guide for the University of Cambridge.

If you are interested in commissioning any images please get in touch.

PRINTMAKING

While I was doing my MA I discovered the print rooms and after some initial trepidation I was hooked! I make a lot of my images using traditional relief printing techniques such as vinyl cuts and collographs. It takes much longer than drawing or painting, and you can never be completely sure how they will turn out until you print them, but I love all the happy little accidents that make each print unique. If you would like to buy an editioned print, please visit my shop.

CHILDREN'S ART ACTIVITIES

Over the last two years I’ve been heavily involved with children’s arts facilitation as part of ZSL London Zoo’s arts and culture program. I’ve designed and implemented art workshops for children of all ages. I have a clean DBS check and current insurance.

If you are interested in booking me to teach children’s art activities, please get in touch.  I'm happy to tailor classes to specific age ranges or topics, provided they are related to animals or nature.
